Former Pitt WR Joins the College Coaching Ranks

Melquise Stovall only spent one season at Pitt, but he certainly made it count.
Stovall transferred from Hawaii to Pitt for his final season of collegiate eligibility, and while he only caught 16 passes for 203 yards (12.7 yards per reception) and a touchdown, he was a contributor to the first ACC title in program history.
Now, Stovall is taking his first coaching role.
Stovall has been hired as the director of speed and development at Sacramento State, joining former Pitt wide receivers coach Brennan Marion, and it’s a graduate assistant role with the Hornets.

Stovall spent time with Marion at Hawaii in the 2020 season, hauling in 31 receptions for 232 yards (7.5 yards per reception). He transferred to Pitt before the 2021 season and spent his final season of eligibility with the Panthers.
He started his college career at Cal, thriving as a true freshman — hauling in 42 receptions for 415 yards (9.9 yards per reception) and three touchdowns. An injury derailed his sophomore season and led him to Riverside City College for a junior college season.
He spent two seasons at Hawaii, racking up 49 receptions for 480 yards (9.8 yards per reception) and four touchdowns.
Sacramento State is entering a new era under Marion, who was hired away from San Diego State earlier this offseason. He spent just one season at Pitt as its wide receivers coach but has had stops at Texas and SDSU since.
Former Pitt running back Rodney Hammond Jr. will also be at Sacramento State next season, signing with the Hornets earlier this year after entering the transfer portal at the end of the 2024 season.
