Damian Dunn’s Career at Pitt Likely Over

Damian Dunn likely has played his last game in a Pitt Panther uniform.

After suffering a fractured elbow on Saturday in Pitt’s game at North Carolina, head coach Jeff Capel had discouraging news this morning. In his Monday weekly ACC teleconference, Capel stated that it’s unlikely that Dunn will be able to return to action.

While talking to reporters, Capel said, “He has not seen a doctor. We did not come back to Pittsburgh. We traveled straight to Dallas. He’ll be seen by a specialist when we get back. But most likely, he is done for the season.”

Like with the Panther team in general, Dunn’s 2024-25 season started with promise and then spiraled downward.

After arriving at Pitt from Houston, Dunn was expected to play a major role in Pitt’s success this season and for the most part he’s lived up to expectations. However, his final season will be remembered for the two injuries he sustained, first a thumb injury and now an elbow.

In 16 games played at Pitt, Dunn has averaged 9.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game, while shooting 42.5% from the field and 41.2% from 3-point range.

Dunn’s best game in a Panther uniform was two weeks ago against Wake Forest when he scored a season-high 24 points.

As was the case when Dunn was sidelined with a thumb injury, Brandin Cummings is expected to replace Dunn and take a majority of his minutes.

In 22 games played this season, Cummings has averaged 13.8 minutes, 5.7 points, 1.4 rebounds and has shot 41.3% from 3-point range.

Pitt (14-9, 5-7) will be looking to break a 3-game losing streak and get their season back on track tomorrow as they’ll be on the road taking on SMU.
