A former Panther is returning to Pittsburgh to further his professional coaching career.

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Steelers have hired Scott McCorley as their new inside linebackers coach. He’s spent the last five seasons as the Dallas Cowboys linebackers coach.

McCurley played four seasons at Pitt from 1999-2002, playing linebacker for the Panthers.

McCurley is a New Castle, Pa. native, attending Mohawk High School, and he went on to play at Pitt. According to Pro Football Reference, he recorded two interceptions in two seasons with the program.

McCurley received his coaching start at Pitt, joining the Panthers as a defensive graduate assistant.

He received his NFL break with the Green Bay Packers as a coaching administrator intern in 2006. He worked his way up to the assistant linebackers coach role with the Packers in 2017 and spent the 2018 season as a defensive assistant.

After taking a year off in 2019, McCurley joined the Cowboys as their linebackers coach, a position he had held since 2020.

McCurley won Super Bowl XLV with the Packers in 2011, knocking off the Steelers, 31-25, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tx. He’s worked with linebackers like Clay Matthews, A.J. Hawk, Micah Parsons, Leighton Vander Esch and many more.

The Steelers former inside linebackers coach, Aaron Curry, left this offseason to take a job with the New York Jets. McCurley will work with inside linebackers Patrick Queen, Payton Wilson and Elandon Roberts.
