Jaland Lowe Injury Update: Will He Play Against Syracuse?

Published

on

The Pitt Panthers dropped from No. 15 to No. 20 in the NET rankings after losing to No. 4 Duke. See the full NET rankings here.

On Monday morning, Pitt head coach Jeff Capel gave an update on guard Jaland Lowe’s injury heading into Pitt’s game against Syracuse.

“He’s cleared to be able to play tomorrow,” Capel said about Lowe.

Pitt (15-10) is coming off of a win over Miami in which Lowe was sidelined due to a head injury suffered against SMU.

Lowe was evaluated for a concussion during the Panthers’ loss to SMU after he collided with Mustangs’ guard Boopie Miller. Lowe went through the concussion protocol and returned to the game but left less than a minute after getting back on the court.

Lowe has started 24 games this year for the Panthers, and is averaging 35 minutes per game. He is the team’s leading scorer on the year, averaging 16.5 points per game along with 4.1 rebounds per game. Lowe leads the team by far with 128 assists on the season, and has 41 steals too, which ranks second on the team.

Lowe has been listed as a potential NBA draft pick throughout the year, but as of late, he has not been listed in those mock drafts as a potential NBA Draft pick.

Early in the season, Lowe was named “one of the best NBA prospects in the ACC” by national analyst and scout Adam Finkelstein.

“One of the best, I think, NBA prospects in the ACC. Someone who is, I think, going to have a huge breakout sophomore season — that doesn’t sound like such a hot take after he started the year with 21, six, five, and three, with zero turnovers, or something absurd like that…”

Finkelstein spoke more about his first time watching Lowe at Peach Jam years ago.

“…I think that last year we saw an idea of what he could look like,” Finkelstein continued. “Not initially, because he had a little bit of a preseason injury, but later in the year, when he got in the starting lineup and in ACC play, in particular, the numbers really told the story…”
