Getting selected in the NFL Draft as a placekicker isn’t easy. However, when you have the talent and resume of Pitt’s Ben Sauls, it becomes more manageable.

Sauls is one of four Pitt Panthers who received an invitation to next month’s NFL combine along with tight end Gavin Bartholomew, offensive tackle Branson Taylor and wide receiver Konata Mumpfield.

While kicking in front of the NFL teams in Indianapolis, Sauls will have the opportunity to improve his NFL stock, which got better following the East-West Shrine Bowl.

As things currently stand, Sauls is already projected by one national NFL outlet to get drafted.

In his latest mock draft, Ben Rolfe of Pro Football Network has Sauls being drafted in the seventh round by the Baltimore Ravens. Considering the struggles in 2024 of Justin Tucker and the offseason allegations being levied against him, Sauls to the Ravens could be something to keep in mind as the draft draws closer.

Tucker finished the 2024 season with a career-low percentage in field goals made of just 73.3% (22-of-30).

While Tucker struggled and appears to be on the back nine of his career, Sauls had an outstanding 2024 season as he was Pitt’s most consistent offensive weapon.

The left-footer connected on 21-of-24 fields and was 44-for-44 on PATs. More impressively, Sauls connected on six field goals of 50+ yards, including a season-high of 58 yards against California and two of 57 yards.

Sauls was named an All-American by PFF and was an All-ACC third-team selection in 2024.

Sauls finished his career at Pitt making 52 of 64 attempts (81.3%), which is impressive considering the difficulties of kicking in Pittsburgh.

After being a definite uncertainty as to how many if any, it now appears as though Pitt has the chance of having at least four and maybe five players drafted this year with Sauls, Mumpfield, Bartholomew, Taylor and possibly Donovan McMillon.
