Pitt Takeaways: Panthers Freshman Guards Display Potential in Win Over Miami

Ishmael Leggett scored a game-high 21 points in a very efficient 6-of-11 shooting performance. He was more than just the main scorer as he was tied for the team-high with 10 rebounds.

“I kind of told the guys before the game, whatever it takes, do what we gotta do, we got two guys down so do it for yourself but also do it for your brothers,” Leggett said after the win. “We played kind of on fire like our backs were against the wall and that translates. … We repped it out in practice so we got a good feel for who’s going to be where. I think we did a great job in practice just prepping stuff out.”

Jaland Lowe Injury Update: Will He Play Against Syracuse?

“We have a lot of season left and we have to continue to fight,” Capel said. “The thing that I am encouraged by and inspired by is how these guys continue to show up and how they practice and how they have each others back. Today I saw them hold themselves accountable, hold each other accountable. That was really good to see so hopefully it is something that we can build on.”

Pitt stays at home and will play host to Syracuse on Tuesday night in another crucial game for the Panthers’ tournament hopes. The Panthers defeated the Orange by the score of 77-73 at the Dome on Jan. 25 despite the Orange’s big-man Eddie Lampkin posting 23 rebounds.
