Duquesne MBB Has Balanced Effort Besting Fordham

The Duquesne Men’s Basketball Team bounced back besting Fordham 73-64 Wednesday night at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

The 73 points are the most the Dukes scored against Fordham since Jan. 27, 2021, when it scored 86.

Duquesne (11-15/6-7 Atlantic 10) had five achieve double figures, led by David Dixon’s 14 points and five blocks. Both Cam Crawford and Tre Dinkins III each posted 13 points. Jahsean Corbett got the start with Jakub Necas out due to a concussion and he earned 12 points. Eli Wilborn scored 10 points and six rebounds. Matus Hronsky set a career high with seven assists.

Fordham (11-15/3-10 A-10) saw Jackie Johnson III total 20 points against his former team. Matt Zona amassed 12 points, while teammates Japhet Medor and Josh Rivera both wound up with 10 points, the first of which had eight assists.

Fordham got off to a quick start, opening on a 9-3 run as Johnson scored seven of those points. Fordham had the lead at 12-6 at the first media timeout.

The Rams led by seven points during several points in the first half, before the Duquesne defense began to dig in.

Offensively, Duquesne’s Dixon benefitted from several lobs, while Dinkins sank multiple threes.

A critical point in the first half came as Fordham went without a basket for 6:17 in the first half, allowing the Dukes to go on an 11-4 run.

Fordham have a 7-0 reply before Crawford’s turnaround jumper tied the game at 31 as both teams retreated to the locker room.

Crawford got the second half going for Duquesne with an and-one play. Wilborn would add post presence, resulting in multiple baskets.

A 6-0 Dukes run created separation, placing the hosts up by nine points, as Hronsky recorded four assists in Duquesne’s opening six baskets in the half.

Fordham would contain Duquesne to a 4:57 scoreless streak, a figure broken by Hronsky going off glass. The Rams got to within four points during this time.

Duquesne utilized a 9-2 run as Fordham failed to convert from the field for a 3:19 stretch.

The Dukes were able to pull away and shot 21-for-26 from the free-throw line.

Duquesne continues play with a two-game road trip beginning Saturday at St. Bonaventure. The Dukes bested the Bonnies 75-57 on Jan. 18.
