Local WPIAL Standout Schedules Pitt Official Visit

The Pitt football program is currently recruiting many WPIAL players in the Class of 2026 and one of their top targets gave them some good news.
This morning, Peters Township three-star tight end/defensive end Lucas Shanafelt announced that he’d be making an official visit to Pitt from June 5-7.

The two sides have had a lot of contact over the last month and it looks as though that will be continuing.
Pitt is recruiting Shanafelt (6-foot-4, 245 pounds) as a tight end and he received his first Power Four offer from Kade Bell and Pitt on Jan. 24.
Then less than two weeks later, Shanafelt and his family made an unofficial visit to Pitt, which was actually his first time visiting their facilities.
Following his offer from Pitt, Shanafelt has received offers from West Virginia, Liberty, James Madison, UConn, Akron and Lehigh. At the end of January, Shanafelt received an in-school visit from James Franklin and Terry Smith from Penn State.
Shanafelt is one of a handful of WPIAL juniors Pat Narduzzi and the Panthers hope to get on campus for an official visit and eventually get a commitment from. Other players include Peters Township four-star DE Reston Lehman, Central Catholic three-star DE Ashton Blatt, Central Catholic three-star LB Colsen Gatten, Imani Christian three-star DB David Davis and North Allegheny DT Lincoln Hoke.
