WPIAL Star Schedules Penn State Official Visit

Matt Sieg has been committed to Penn State since November, and while he’s made more than his fair share of trips to State College, he’s scheduled perhaps his most important.

Sieg — a 6-foot, 180-pound four-star safety from Fort Cherry in McDonald, Pa. — has set his official visit for May 30-June 1.

Sieg originally committed to Penn State on Nov. 2, the same day the Nittany Lions squared off against eventual national champion Ohio State in State College, and he picked the Lions over offers from Akron, Buffalo, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Pitt, RMU, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, USC, Vanderbilt, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

“I definitely looked around,” Matt Sieg told Nittany Sports Now. “I was open to a lot of different schools but went through my recruitment, and me and my family just decided that Penn State was going to be the best fit for me and what I wanted to do.”

Penn State prioritized Sieg early, extending his first college offer, and James Franklin, Terry Smith and the entire coaching staff have worked hard to retain his commitment. And it doesn’t hurt that Sieg grew up as a Penn State fan, either.

Sieg’s father is a Penn State fan, so the younger Sieg grew up watching the Nittany Lions — idolizing Trace McSorley, Saquon Barkley and crew. And now he’s the latest in a long line of in-state commitments.

Sieg is coming off back-to-back WPIAL Class 1A titles at Fort Cherry, knocking off Clairton, 21-20, in the most recent game. He was as dominant against Clairton as he’s been throughout his high school career.

He threw for 1,350 yards and 20 touchdowns, ran for 1,840 yards and 32 touchdowns and added 50 tackles (23 solo) and four interceptions on the defensive side of the ball. He’s a dynamic threat on offense, but he’s destined for the defensive side of the ball.

247Sports rates Sieg as the 73rd-ranked recruit in the class (seventh-ranked safety and second-ranked recruit from Pennsylvania) while Rivals rates him as the 221st-ranked recruit in the class (16th-ranked safety and fifth-ranked recruit from Pennsylvania).
