A week from now, college football recruiting will swing into high gear.

College teams will officially begin their spring practices which also means that they’ll be hosting high school recruits on unofficial spring visits.

Peters Township 2026 3-star tight end/defensive end Lucas Shanafelt is one that’s been in the recruiting headlines a lot over the last month. Over the weekend, Shanafelt announced that he plans on making a couple upcoming spring visits.

Shanafelt has scheduled visits to a couple of ACC schools, including his hometown Pitt Panthers. Shanafelt will make a return visit to Pitt for practice on March 15th and then a week later, he’ll travel down to Durham, North Carolina to visit Manny Diaz and the Duke Blue Devils.

At the beginning of the month, Shanafelt and his family made an unofficial visit to Pitt, which was actually his first time visiting the facilities.

“The visit was awesome,” Shanafelt told PSN after the visit. “All the people at Pitt were great to me, I really love the coaches up there, from the recruiting staff all the way up to the head coach, they were awesome. The facilities were great, Pitt’s weight room is sick, the training room, everything across the board was really nice.”

“Coach Narduzzi talked to my parents and I for a good while. Basically, just talked to us about how things work at Pitt, how many guys they offer at a position, how many they actually want and where their interest lies between those players. He talked to us about the transfer portal, how it works, roster depth and all that stuff. He told me that they’re very interested in me, and I’m just really interested in continuing to grow my relationship with him and his staff.

With these upcoming spring visits, it would not be surprising to see Shanafelt go on a run in terms of receiving Power 4 offers. Currently, he holds one from Pitt and West Virginia.

At this time, the only official visit that he’s scheduled is to Pitt from June 5-7th.
