Western Pennsylvania (Washington, PA) native Shane Hennen is involved in one of the biggest basketball scandals ever.

A Western Pennsylvania native is in the middle of what Sports Illustrated referred to as one of the “most pervasive point-shaving scandals in North American sports history.”

Shane Hennen, a Washington, PA native, has a criminal history dating back to 2006. Now, he has been arrested again, this time for his involvement in this gambling ring that included NBA and college basketball teams and players.

Sports Illusrated writers Pat Forde and Michael Rosenberg recently reported that, “In a court filing last month, the office of acting U.S. Attorney Carolyn Pokorny of the Eastern District of New York vouched for “substantial evidence” that Hennen was involved in “illicit financial transactions and fraudulent sports wagers totaling millions of dollars,” resulting “in potentially millions of dollars’ worth of illicit profits and money-laundering transactions.”

Hennen was arrested in the Las Vegas airport while trying to board a flight.

He is linked to the bombshell gambling case that includes Jontay Porter, a former NBA player who admitted to subbing himself out of NBA games, as SI reports, “so gamblers could win prop bets on his performances.” SI reported that Terry Rozier, a former ACC player at Louisville, is also being investigated for his potential role in this case.

According to SI, Hennen will be charged with wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering and that he is currently negotiating a plea deal.

According to WJPA, Hennen attended and played basketball for Washington High School in Washington, PA. Hennen is listed on the World Series of Poker’s website as a Washington, PA native who competed in the WSOP in 2013-14.
