Tight ends and defensive backs hit the field to showcase their speed and skills at the NFL Combine on Friday in Indianapolis, Ind., which meant Pitt tight end Gavin Bartholomew put his talent on display.

Bartholomew, who measured at 6-foot-5, 246 pounds with a hand size of 9 7/8″, increased his 40-yard dash time on his second go around.

After a 4.73 unofficial time on his first attempt, Bartholomew improved his speed with an official 4.70 on his second attempt. That was fourth-best among participating tight ends, tying with Thomas Fidone II of Nebraska.

The Schuykill Haven, Pa. native also participated in the on-field drills, including various route running, a block explosion drill and the gauntlet drill.

Bartholomew started off slow in the gauntlet, a seven-pass drill, but would haul in six passes to finish off strong.

The tight ends will conclude their time at the combine on Saturday with the bench press and final interviews.

Bartholomew is one of four Panthers set to workout at the NFL Combine along with wide receiver Konata Mumpfield, kicker Ben Sauls and offensive lineman Branson Taylor.

During his days leading up to his scheduled workouts, Bartholomew says he met with representatives with nearly every NFL organization. In January, Bartholomew was projected to go in the sixth round by the Seattle Seahawks by Dalton Miller of Pro Football Network.

The Blue Mountain High School product had the opportunity to leave the Pitt program prior to his senior season, but decided to remain loyal and finish out his career with the Panthers. In his final collegiate season, he totaled 38 catches for 322 yards and four touchdowns as he earned All-ACC Honorable Mention.

When Bartholomew joined the Panthers as a true freshman, he made an immediate impact catching 27 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns as the Panthers went on to claim their first ACC Championship.

He closed his career at Pitt with 104 receptions for 1,248 yards and 11 touchdowns in 39 games.
