Former Pitt Star Cashes in with Huge NBA Contract

Former Pitt star forward Justin Champagnie cashed in on Sunday, according to reports.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Champagnie, a forward who plays for the Washington Wizards, signed a four-year deal worth $10 million with the Wizards.

Champagnie is just 23 years old, and is currently in his fourth NBA season after spending two years at Pitt. The 6-foot-6 forward is averaging 7.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for the Wizards this season. He averages 18 minutes per game and shoots 50% from the field and 38% from three-point range.

Brooklyn’s own, Champagnie played two seasons at Pitt from 2019-21, earning All-ACC honors in 2020-21. He started 46 games in his Panther career, averaging 14.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in his collegiate career. In his stellar sophomore campaign, Champagnie averaged 18 points and 11.1 rebounds per game in 20 games. He went un-drafted out of Pitt but has now been on several NBA teams and has shined in the NBA G-League.

Champagnie has also competed for the Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors in his young NBA career. He is now teammates with former Pitt guard Bub Carrington on the rebuilding Wizards. With this new deal, Champagnie will continue to play just hours away from his collegiate home and will continue to serve as a mentor to the Wizards’ young talent.
