After winning two of its last three games, Pitt’s women’s basketball team has qualified for the ACC Tournament.

The Panthers clinched their spot in the upcoming conference tournament by beating Wake Forest in their final game of the regular season and getting some help from Cal, who eliminated Miami.

This year, the top 15 teams (out of 18 in the league) make the conference tournament. Pitt finished the regular season in 15th place, going 5-13 in ACC action. Miami, SMU, and Wake Forest are the three teams that did not make the tournament.

Pitt began the ACC schedule 1-9 before going 4-4 in the final eight games of the year. The Panthers beat Wake Forest, Clemson, SMU (twice), and Boston College. Boston College was the best team that Pitt took down this conference season. The Eagles finished with a 6-12 record in ACC play.

The ACC Tournament kicks off on Wednesday, March 5 this upcoming week. Check out the details here.

Pitt has had nine-straight losing seasons in the women’s basketball program, however, this year’s 12 wins mark the most wins in a season for the program since 2017. In addition, this year was just the second year that the Panthers have earned five wins in ACC play.
