How Did Pitt WR Konata Mumpfield Perform at the NFL Combine?

Over the weekend, Pitt football wide receiver Konata Mumpfield participated in the NFL Combine in hopes of boosting his draft stock.
Mumpfield, who measure at 5-foot-11, 186 pounds and an 8 1/2″ hand, was more so looking to showcase his route running ability compared to his overall speed.
In the 40-yard dash, Mumpfield ran an official 4.59 with a 10-second split of 1.54. It was less than ideal, but again, that is not Mumpfield’s strong suit.

“Just how smooth I really am,” Mumpfield said on Friday on what he was hoping to show scouts. “How effortless catching the ball is for me. Definitely my smoothness, getting in and out of routes, speed cuts, breaking and just natural ball-tracking ability,” he said.
The Dacula High School product ran a smooth drill in the gauntlet, hauling in each of the seven passes, including a final grab that needed some extra reach to pull it in.

On the final drill of the day, Mumpfield did roll his ankle after attempting to catch an end zone pass from Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe. He would limp off, but it was reported by Chris Carter of the Post-Gazette that it is just a minor injury.
In other measurables, Mumpfield recorded a 36″ vertical jump and a 10′ 4″ broad jump. Overall, the NFL graded him with a 5.92 score, which ranked 29th out of 49 wide receivers competing at the combine.
In a mock draft in early February, Konata Mumpfield was projected to go 203rd overall (sixth round) to the Los Angeles Rams, per Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network.
Mumpfield led Pitt this past fall as a senior captain with 52 receptions for 813 yards and five touchdowns as he earned All-ACC Honorable Mention recognition. During his Pitt career, the Georgia native totaled 1,940 yards on 154 receptions and 11 touchdowns. He joined Pitt after one season at Akron in which he was named as a Freshman All-American with 751 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
Mumpfield, along with the rest of the Panthers’ NFL hopefuls will have another opportunity at the end of March to compete in drills for scouts at Pitt’s Pro Day.
