Pitt commit Jacob Thomas

Over the weekend, Florida sophomore wide receiver Jacob Thomas decided to close down his recruitment by making a commitment to the Pitt Panthers.

The speedster from Charles Flanagan High School in Hollywood, Florida told PSN that his early decision came down to the relationship that he’s built with offensive coordinator Kade Bell and wide receivers coach JJ Laster. Since receiving the Pitt offer in July, Thomas tells me that he’s been in constant contact with Pitt and that they’ve built a special bond.

“We talk about how I can fit in their system but not only that just life and becoming a young man. They really love me for me and that stands out to me. Feels like a place I can call home.”

“I loved how honest they have been with me since I was offered,” said Thomas. “They say my speed is rare to find. I have maintained close relationship with both Kade Bell and JJ Laster. They came by to see me during spring, and they expressed to me how they would use me in the offense, and how I would be coached and developed and challenged week in and week out.”

Despite giving a verbal to Pitt, considering he’s only a sophomore, Thomas will continue to get pursued by college programs and that’s happened over the weekend.

Since announcing his commitment to Pitt, the 5’10”, 160-pound wide receiver has received new Power 4 offers from both Auburn and Purdue. Considering his talent, these offers will continue to come in.

Despite these two new offers and his official signing day two years away, Thomas believes the timing of his commitment is right and is counting the days until he’s officially a Pitt Panther.

“No, I don’t think it’s too early,” said Thomas. “They love me, I love them, so why not lock in the decision right now.”

“Honestly, they getting a dog! Someone who loves football, and someone who gonna stretch the field and be an explosive playmaker for their offense. I’m coming up there to start as a freshman and help them win an ACC championship. Let’s work Pitt Family #Hail2Pitt.
