Longtime ACC Tournament Announcers Moving to SEC Tournament

The pair that has called numerous ACC Tournaments in years past has moved on to another league.
On Tuesday, the SEC announced that announcing duo Jay Bilas and Dan Shulman will call the SEC Tournament this year, opposed to the ACC Tournament. Bilas and Shulman will be replaced by Dave O’Brien and Cory Alexander.
Awful Announcing reported that the change is ‘not permanent.’
“Per an ESPN spokesperson, ‘This switch is not permanent and [broadcast assignments] will be determined on a year-to-year basis,’ presumably based on the quality of each conference,” the report said.
The ACC is having a “down year” according to many around the game, including Pitt head coach Jeff Capel.
Jeff Capel on the narrative that the ACC is having a down year:
“Well, it is. That’s the reality. I’m not going to give you coach speak. It is.”

As of Tuesday, the ACC is only projected to have three teams in this year’s NCAA Tournament. On the other end of the spectrum, the SEC is expected to get 12 teams into the big dance.
Just months ago, Pitt was a five-seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament projections, back when the team was 10-2.Â
Pitt eventually bolstered its record up to 12-2 on the season, but has struggled mightily since. The Panthers currently stand at 16-13 overall and 7-11 in ACC play this season.
Pitt hasn’t been to the NCAA Tournament since the 2022-23 season, in which it went all the way from the First Four to the Round of 32. The Panthers have made the NCAA Tournament one time under head coach Jeff Capel, who is in his seventh season as head coach of the program.
