Pitt Lands Commitment From Younger Brother of All-American

When an older brother has national success at Pitt by earning All-American recognition, it’s no surprise that the younger brother would want to follow in a similar path.
That has led Tyler Reid — the younger brother of Pitt running back Desmond Reid — to commit to the Panthers on Thursday, he announced via X.

Reid — a 5-foot-9, 165-pound running back and receiver — becomes the second Pitt commitment in the 2027 class, joining wide receiver Jacob Thomas out of Charles Flanagan High School in Hollywood, Florida.
Offensive coordinator Kade Bell and Pitt offered Reid on January 31 of 2024, just weeks after Desmond transferred into the program. His only other offer at the time came from Western Carolina when Bell was still on staff before leaving for Pitt.
It’s become clear that the Pitt skill position coaches who hail from Florida — Bell, JJ Laster and Lindsey Lamar — are pushing hard for speedy talent from the Sunshine State in the early commitments from Reid and Thomas.
Much like his brother, Reid has elusive speed and a knack for making people miss with his explosive cutting ability. As a sophomore, he compiled 122 carries for 872 yards and six touchdowns for Miramar High School in Florida. According to his X account, he runs a 10.69 100-meter and a 4.38 40-yard dash.
While there is still a long way for Reid to go until his signing day, it will not be surprising if more offers start to come in after his verbal pledge to the Panthers. Thomas has seen his recruitment rise since committing to Pitt with offers from Kentucky, UCF, Purdue and Auburn.
