Seeding Options for Pitt, Duquesne in Conference Tournaments

Published

on

On Saturday, Pitt and Duquesne will wrap up their respective basketball regular seasons with one last game.

The Panthers will play at home against Boston College, and the Dukes will play at Saint Louis in an A10 battle.

With just one game remaining, we wanted to take a look at the seeding options for the Panthers and the Dukes for their upcoming conference tournaments.

PITT’S OPTIONS

Pitt is currently tied for 11th in the ACC with Notre Dame and Florida State at 7-12. Pitt has lost to both of those two teams, so in the case of a tie, the Panthers would likely be seeded around the 12-13 range.

The Panthers could finish Saturday anywhere from the No. 10 seed to No. 13 in the league, meaning, they’ll play on day one of the ACC Tournament in Charlotte. To earn the tenth seed, Pitt needs to win, and watch ND, VT, and FSU lose. If the Panthers fall to Boston College, they will earn either the No. 12 or 13 seed depending on the other action around the league.

DUQUESNE’S OPTIONS

The Dukes are tied for eighth in the A10 with Saint Bonaventure at 8-9 in league play.

The Bonnies will take on Davidson at 2 p.m., while Duquesne plays at 8 p.m. We’ll have a better idea later in the day of the Dukes’ options.

Check out the breakdown below to see what all of the potential scenarios are for the A10 seeding arrangements. Duquesne can be seeded as high as seventh, and as low as tenth in the upcoming A10 tournament.

If the Dukes are seeded tenth, they would have to play in the first round of the A10 tournament. If they earn a single-digit seed, they would receive a bye and wouldn’t have to play until the second round on Thursday, March 13.
