Varina High School (Va.) product JaySean Richardson is down to five schools in his recruitment and Pitt is among the finalists.

The 6-foot-1, 285-pound defensive tackle prospect released his top five programs via X on Friday with Pitt, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Wake Forest and Maryland.

Richardson, who does not hold a rating from any of the major recruiting services, eliminates offers from West Virginia, Indiana, Appalachian State, East Carolina, Liberty, James Madison, Bowling Green, Norfolk State, Old Dominion, Marshall, Charlotte, Delaware and Bryant.

Pitt initially extended an offer to Richardson on Jan. 22, 2024. Since then, he took a gameday visit when Pitt took on Clemson back in November.

“My biggest impression from Saturday is when all the fans started waving the towels when the defense get a huge stop,” Richardson told Pittsburgh Sports Now following the game. “Also loved briefly talking to the d line coach, Coach Daoust. Looking forward to going back soon. Pitt stands top three with me.”

Richardson was a key part of Varina football’s 12-2 season this past fall as he took home All-Metro Defensive Player of the Year honors after compiling 70 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 15 sacks and a safety. It is pretty evident that Richardson has has a knack for getting into the backfield and racking up TFLs with a strong push and excellent burst.

While there are no dates set up for Richardson to visit Pitt, he is scheduled to take official visits at Virginia Tech (June 20-22) and Virginia (June 5-8), along with an unofficial visit at Maryland on March 29.
