Aside from hosting a number of recruits on Saturday morning for their Spring Practice, Pitt also extended a few offers, one of which went to a junior from Ohio.

2026 three-star offensive tackle Pete Eglitis from Watterson High School in Columbus, Ohio earned an offer from the Panthers on Saturday.

The 6-foot-7, 288-pound lineman previously received offers from programs such as Akron, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Iowa State, James Madison, Kent State, Kentucky, Liberty, Miami Ohio, Missouri, Ohio U., Old Dominion, Toledo and Western Michigan.

As he traveled for the visit, despite having so many offers, Eglitis wasn’t sure if he’d be leaving Pittsburgh with the Panthers being the latest program to extend him an offer.

“The offer was actually pretty surprising,” Eglitis told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “Coach Manalac came to my school during the winter and talked to a few of us at Watterson and said that he wanted to get us up to Pitt for the spring practice. I came on Saturday, talked to the o-line coaches and actually a lot of people at Pitt. Soon as I got there, I just got the feeling that Pitt really liked me and I got a lot of attention, which was really nice.”

Eglitis says that Coach Manalac was the one that offered him and after that occurred, he received a tour of campus and then he and his family had sit-down conversations with offensive line coach Jeremy Darveau and head coach Pat Narduzzi.

“When we had our meeting, coach Darveau was telling me he liked my frame. For being 6-foot-7, 288-pounds, he thought I moved really good. They liked my athletic ability, and he said that he’s trying to get to more outside zone. So, my athletic ability is what really stood out to the Pitt coaches. Personally, I think another strength of mine is the physicality that I show on tape.”

Pitt obviously isn’t the only team recruiting Eglitis and this wasn’t his first spring visit, so where does Pitt compare to other teams he’s been in contact with?

“I’d definitely say that Pitt’s campus really stood out to my family and me,” said Eglitis. “How old it was and how beautiful The Cathedral of Learning is. As well as the competitiveness of Pitt’s practice. It was the first day of practice in pads and there was a lot of trash talking going on, which I really love. Those two things really stood out to me.”

Saturday was the just start of what will be an extremely busy month for Eglitis as he plans on making spring visits to Ohio State (today), Syracuse and Michigan State (this weekend), Louisville, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Iowa State and Kentucky.

“Coach Darveau is going to come see me this spring and watch me work out a bit. I have a busy spring, so after that, then I’ll decide on where I’m going for official visits.”
