Mac Stout is an All-American.

Pitt’s redshirt sophomore, ranked No. 6, made it to the semifinals, where he fell to Cal State Bakersfield’s AJ Ferrari, 2-0.

But he sealed All-America status in the Blood Round by beating Northern Iowa’s Wyatt Voelker, ranked No. 7.

In the next match, he fell to Stephen Little, a sophomore from Arkansas-Little Rock ranked No. 12, 4-1 in sudden victory. Next up is Nebraska’s Camden McDanel, who’s ranked No. 20. Stout will wrestle McDanel for seventh place.

Two other Pitt wrestlers qualified for the Blood Round: Luca Augustine at 174 and Dayton Pitzer at 285. Pitzer started his time in the blood round with a 9-0 major decision over South Dakota State’s Luke Rasmussen, ranked No. 25. He then pinned No. 15 Trevor Tinker of Cal Poly before falling in a 5-1 decision to Iowa’s Ben Kueter, ranked No. 5. That loss was Pitzer’s second of the tournament, ending his All-America hopes.

No. 16 Augustine got a 4-3 decision over No. 16 Lorenzo Norman of Stanford then beat Army’s Dalton Hawkins 4-1 in sudden victory.

In the blood round, he fell 7-6 to Iowa’s Patrick Kennedy, ranked No. 11, on riding time.

The last day of the tournament begins Saturday at 11 on ESPN.
