Western Pennsylvania’s Class of 2027 may be one of the more talented groups in quite some time and five players from the WPIAL were included in the initial On3 300 prospects list.

McKeesport running back Kemon Spell, Seton LaSalle wide receiver Khalil Taylor, McKeesport wide receiver Javien Robinson, Central Catholic offensive lineman Jimmy Kalis and West Mifflin running back Armand Hill were all named within the top 300 players in the country for the 2027 cycle

Kemon Spell — No. 8

The Pittsburgh area has not boasted a top-10 national prospect since Jeannette’s Terrelle Pryor took the country by storm as the top prospect in the 2008 class. Spell is now changing that as the No. 8 overall recruit in the 2027 class.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound four-star prospect ranks as the No. 1 running back in the class and top recruit out of Pennsylvania.

Spell committed to Penn State prior to his sophomore season, but has since been pursued by Notre Dame and Tennessee, who have extended offers.

Khalil Taylor – No. 16

Taylor has an abundance of talent and can line up on either side of the ball, but he is being coveted as a wide receiver. On3 rates Taylor as a four-star recruit, the 16th player nationally, second receiver in the class and right behind Spell as the second-best prospect in the state.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound recruit holds offers from Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan State, Indiana, Rutgers, Nebraska, USF, UNLV, Temple, UConn, Bowling Green, Akron, Troy and Sacramento State

Javien Robinson – No. 74

Robinson has shot up the recruiting rankings as he earns his first stars from On3. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound receiver from McKeesport is now listed as the 74th-best player in the nation, 13th overall receiver and fifth player in Pa.

He currently holds offers from Rutgers, Syracuse, Akron and Duquesne, but that is likely to change in a hurry.

Jimmy Kalis – No. 222

It might be a crime for Kalis to be this low on the initial On3 rankings, but it won’t last long as he is certain to climb the ranks over the next two years. He stands at 6-6, 285 pounds and has all the tools to be a top offensive tackle in the class.

On3 lists Kalis as the No. 222 recruit in the class, 18th offensive tackle and seventh player in the state.

Armand Hill – No. 298

Hill blew up as a freshman after a headlining stat line of 495 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a single game. He then saw several offers come in from Michigan, Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia, Maryland, Syracuse, UNLV and others.

Not long ago, Hill made his verbal pledge and committed to West Virginia after a visit to the program.

Hill checks in as a three-star prospect and the No. 298 player in the class. He is also the 24th-ranked running back and ninth-best player in the state, per On3.

While no longer in the WPIAL, Aliquippa native Larry Moon III finds himself in the On3 300. A 6-foot, 185-pound IMG Academy cornerback product, Moon checks in at No. 129 in the listing and 14th corner in the class.

Moon spent his freshman season at Central Catholic before going back home to Aliquippa. He then transferred to IMG Academy in January.

He is one of the most sought-after recruits in the 2027 class with offers from Georgia, Pitt, Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Oregon, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, LSU, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kansas, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Penn State, UCLA, Maryland, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Tennessee, Miami, South Carolina, Nebraska, Akron, UNLV, Troy, UCF, USC, Syracuse, Miami (OH), Kentucky, North Carolina, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Ohio, UConn, Colorado State, San Jose State and Sacramento State.
