Even though Dylan Wester has a multi-day official visit to Pitt in place for June, him and his family felt it was necessary to get an extended look at the program over the course of three full days.

Wester, a three-star wide receiver from Florida, his mom, dad and brother watched as Pitt competed in spring practice, sat in on unit meetings and was in attendance at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday to watch the Panthers in their first scrimmage of the year.

Before the final day of the trip, Wester met with head coach Pat Narduzzi and shared that he was committing to Pitt.

“Coach Narduzzi was excited to hear me commit and he made sure I was ready to make the choice,” Wester told Pittsburgh Sports Now.

Pitt football’s offensive play style and connections to further his career played a pivotal role in selecting Pitt.

“I feel like I fit very well into Kade Bell’s offense. Coach [JJ] Laster, I feel like he’s a great coach. I feel like he coaches players hard and wants them to be great. Also, the pipeline from Pitt to the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Wester said.

The Booker High School (Sarasota, Fla.) product flew into Pittsburgh Wednesday night. His in-depth trip began early Thursday morning as he detailed his itinerary.

“Woke up around 6:00 a.m., came to the facility for the spring practice on Thursday,” Wester explained. “Came into the facilities, seen it was with the Pittsburgh Steelers. That was my first time seeing the facilitates. Also, the hills, it was different being down from Florida. I love the city and the facilities were great.

“We got to practice. They were practicing hard. It was competitive. Each person wanted to win. The competition was there. After that, talked with coach Bell for a little bit.”

While Pitt did not practice Friday, Wester got to see a different perspective of the program and the coaching staff.

“Friday, I came in and me and my family sat in a meeting,” he said. “It was really cool to see him get on his players after the practice like the reel coach Bell. That’s who I’d see day-to-day. That was pretty cool.

“After that, I talked with coach Narduzzi, me and my family. Talked to coach Duzz and committed.”

The final day of the trip entailed him and his family visiting the stadium he will play in on Saturday’s in the fall.

“Saturday, came to the scrimmage and got to see the stadium. The stadium was nice. Defense won the scrimmage. They were doing their thing. At the same time, I like the scheme. I like the routes and the concepts and it’s the fit for me,” Wester said.

With his parents by his side during the trip, they also felt like Pitt was a place their son could call home.

“My pops and my mom, they felt like it was a family organization that’s going to make sure I’m good on and off the field. They trust I can live there and I will stay out of trouble and focus on school and being able to get my degree at the same time while playing football,” Wester said.

Part of that trust is placed on Narduzzi and Wester learned a lot about the longtime Pitt head coach.

“Coach Narduzzi, he’s a players coach,” Wester said. “We talked about the amount of days a Pitt play has been in the news. It’s like 846 I believe whenever we talked. It showed just how much he cares and wants his players to be doing good and focusing on football and class. I was in a meeting one time and he was going through who was in that class in the whole team meeting right before practice. That showed he cares about his players. Coach Narduzzi, he’s a great guy.”

The Panthers initially extended an offer to Wester on Jan. 21 and began building a connection with the speedy receiver from there, which included an in-school visit from receiver coach JJ Laster.

“It was important because it showed me that I meant something to the program like I was one of the top recruits. He told me that I could come in and my route running ability could fit into the offense with my ability to get open and hopefully get to the NFL one day,” Wester said.

Last season as a junior, the 5-foot-10, 160-pound wide out caught 37 passes for 675 yards and 6 TD’s, while accumulating over 1,000 all-purpose yards.

“I play with a different aggression on gameday,” Wester said. “Off the field, I might seem calm. On gameday, I’m more of a dog, more locked in.”

Wester will return to the Steel City from June 5-7 for his official visit as he continues to learn more about the program and the players.

“Just want to see what the players do in their free time since they’re not in school and see some of their workouts.”
