Pitt has reached out to another transfer portal prospect.

The Panthers’ staff has reached out to Jonathan Powell, a wing from West Virginia. Powell shined against Pitt in the Mountaineers’ blowout loss earlier this year, scoring 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field.

He has also heard from schools such as North Carolina, Ohio State, and more.

A freshman from Centerville, Ohio, Powell averaged 8.3 points this season. He finished second on WVU in three-pointers (64) and three-point shooting (35.2%). Powell played in all 32 games and started the final 23 after replacing Tucker DeVries in the starting lineup following his injury.Powell reached double-digit points in 15 games this season, scoring a career-high 17 in wins over North Carolina Central and Oklahoma State. He was the hero on WVU’s Senior Day, scoring 15 points, including a pair of clutch three-pointers in the final minutes.

Powell was one of four major contributors who could have returned to WVU next season in addition to fellow freshman KJ Tenner and sophomores Amani Hansberry and Sencire Harris. All four have now hit the portal.

Pitt has reached out to many players in the portal already, including Corey Chest out of LSU, Tae Davis out of Notre Dame, and others.
