Pitt was once involved with one of the top players in Pittsburgh during the 2023 recruiting cycle but lost out to Penn State as it snagged the four-star linebacker.

Ta’Mere Robinson — a Brashear High School grad —  had Pitt as a top-10 school before narrowing it down to Penn State, Miami and Virginia Tech. He ultimately committed and signed with the Nittany Lions.

After two seasons in Happy Valley, Robinson has decided to enter the transfer portal, per multiple reports.

The 6-3, 231-pound linebacker was in line for an increased role in the Penn State defense as a redshirt sophomore. Last season, he compiled 11 tackles (nine solo), 1.5 tackles for loss and a 0.5 sack across 14 games.

PSU head coach James Franklin recently spoke highly of Robinson.

“As you guys know, Ta’Mere was a big get for us,” Franklin said per Joe Smeltzer of PSN‘s partner site Nittany Sports Now.

“I’ve always felt like he’s had a very, very bright future. He’s had some injuries that have been setbacks for him. So getting him back healthy, confident, and playing fast, he’s really flashing right now.”

Robinson was a coveted four-star recruit coming out of Brashear High School in the City League. He received a list of high-end offers from Penn State, Miami, USC, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Michigan, Maryland, Louisville, Nebraska, Kentucky, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Texas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Pitt and several others.

Coming out of high school, Robinson visited Pitt a handful of times, but never took an official visit as the staff pushed to land the nearby recruit.

Robinson will be one of the top linebackers on the open market this spring and will certainly fetch plenty of intriguing offers from across the Power Four after his progress last season and rave reviews this spring.
