Pitt football has seen already a few players hit the transfer portal, but one position in particular has now lost four pieces in just one day.

Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Moritz Schmoranzer announced his intent to enter the transfer portal late Tuesday night via X.

“After talking with my coaches and parents, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with four years of eligibility left,” Schmoranzer started in a post on X. “Thank you to my parents, family and friends for always supporting me. Thank you to my teammates, Coach Narduzzi, Coach Darveau, Coach Stacc, the strength staff, trainers and the rest of the staff for developing, investing and believing in me. There are a lot of things I have learned during my time here, people I will miss and I’m grateful for that. Thank you to the city and the University of Pittsburgh.”

Schmoranzer joins walk-on brothers Graysen and Brody Riffe, along with fellow redshirt freshman Adham Abouraya as the fourth linemen to hit the portal from Pitt.

The 6-4, 300-pound Germany native showed some upside as an interior guard for the Panthers, but he was low on the depth chart. He slotted in as a third-team center this spring before suffering an injury in the final week leaving him inactive for the spring game.

He has a background in running track and spent his first year in the United States playing wide receiver at North Cross School in Virginia. He signed with Pitt as a three-star prospect and 71st interior offensive lineman, according to 247Sports.

Schmoranzer entered his second year at Pitt after not seeing the field as a freshman and earning a redshirt. He was the only lineman in the 2024 recruiting class that enrolled early, so this spring marked a full year in Pittsburgh for the Germany native.

Pitt still has 15 scholarship linemen on its roster with 2025 recruits Shep Turk, Jordan Fields and Torian Chester expected to enroll over the summer.
