Pitt is battling for a 2026 three-star priority running back with rivals West Virginia and Cincinnati, along with some other programs on a similar recruiting playing field.

Christian Lawrence — a 5-foot-7, 185-pound prospect out of Thomas County Central High School in Thomasville, Ga. — announced his top-six schools on Tuesday and the Panthers are in the mix.

Pitt, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Purdue round out the top choices for Lawrence.

It’s another step for Pitt in landing Lawrence as he will take an official visit with the program from June 5-7 — the first on-campus visit at Pitt for Lawrence.

“I decided to take an official visit to Pitt because I love the coaching staff, and I love how of a priority I am to them,” Lawrence told Pittsburgh Sports Now back in early February. “And I also would like to visit the school and see the campus.”

He also has official visits locked in with Virginia Tech (May 30-June 1), West Virginia (June 13-15) and Wake Forest (June 20-22).

Offensive coordinator Kade Bell initially extended an offer to Lawrence on Nov. 20, and it was Bell who invited the running back up for an official visit.

As a junior at Thomas County, Lawrence led the Yellow Jackets with 161 carries for 1,468 yards (9.1 yards per carry) and 18 touchdowns, along with 22 receptions for 326 yards and three more touchdowns. His versatility and ability to catch out of the backfield is key when it comes to fitting into Pitt’s offense.

247Sports sees Lawrence as a three-star talent, the 55th running back in the class and 88th recruit out of Georgia.

Along with Lawrence, four-star running back Damon Ferguson also has Pitt as a top choice, along with some other key programs.
