Pitt Receiving Visit from Marshall Transfer Tight End

With three scholarship tight ends on the Pitt roster, adding one out of the transfer portal is a priority for the Panthers.
Pitt football is looking to get several prospects on campus and are currently hosting a transfer tight end on the South Side.
Marshall transfer tight end Justin Holmes — a 6-foot, 241-pound talent from Kutztown, Pa. — is visiting Pitt Thursday, a source told Pittsburgh Sports Now. He has one more season of eligibility.
Holmes spent one season at Marshall where he appeared in all 13 games with one start as the Herd went on to win the Sun Belt title. He was primarily used as a blocker in the run game and hauled in one pass for 11 yards.
Prior to Marshall, Holmes played his first two seasons of collegiate football at Kent State and appeared in 21 games. In 2023, he played in 12 games with 20 receptions for 188 yards. Holmes played his high school ball at Northwest Lehigh.
Since entering the portal on April 1, Holmes has fielded offers from UTEP, Southern Mississippi and Ball State.
Pitt is looking to bolster its tight end room with a transfer after Jake Renda entered the portal on April 14. Sixth-year senior Jake Overman, sophomore Malachi Thomas and freshman Max Hunt make up the current scholarship tight ends.
The Panthers have also been linked to Indiana transfer Sam West who was reported to be visiting Pitt this week after taking one at Mississippi State earlier this month.
Along with Holmes, Pitt is also hosting former four-star and North Carolina transfer cornerback Zion Ferguson Thursday. Ohio defensive lineman transfer Bralen Henderson visited Pitt on Wednesday.
Overall, Pitt has lost eight total players to the transfer portal — all on the offensive side of the ball — as the Panthers still look to bring in their first portal addition.
