Former Duquesne Forward Commits to Akron
Former Duquesne forward Halil “Chabi” Barre has committed to a new school after entering the transfer portal this spring.
Barre committed to Akron on Friday, as announced by the Zips program twitter page.

Barre entered the portal after spending three seasons on the Bluff. Barre. a 6-foot-9, 225-pound junior forward, played in 18 games this past season, earning 11 starts for Dru Joyce III in his first season as Duquesne men’s basketball head coach. Barre played 11.5 minutes per game, shooting a career-high 73% from the field. Barre also set a career-high mark in free-throw shooting, making 58% of his tries from the charity stripe.
Barre played 15+ minutes in five separate games this past season. Offensively, his best games came early in the season. Barre scored ten points against Old Dominion in late November, before scoring 13 against Saint Peter’s and ten against Delaware.
Barre wrapped up the season averaging 4.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game for the Dukes. Those were career-best numbers for the big man out of Benin, who averaged less than three points per game in each of hist first two years, playing under Keith Dambrot.
With the recent addition of former Xavier center John Hugley, the Dukes front court suddenly became crowded with Hugley, Eli Wilborn, David Dixon, Alex Williams, Barre and Jakub Necas. Since the move by Hugley, Wilborn and now Barre have entered the portal.
Wilborn, the 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward transferred to Duquesne last season from Sacred Heart and averaged 5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. While at Saint Francis, Wilborn averaged 10.8 points and 7.4 rebounds.
