WPIAL Football D1 Commit Switches Focus to Basketball

On Thursday, Brad Everett of the Pittsburgh Union Progress reported some big news in the local high-school sports scene.
Some recruiting news: Beaver’s Brady Mayo no longer plans on playing football in college, saying he is “100% pursuing basketball.” Was a Bucknell football recruit. Several PSAC schools have offered for hoops. Was second in the WPIAL in scoring his senior season (26 ppg).

Everett reported that Brady Mayo will now pursue basketball, instead of football. Mayo was previously committed to Bucknell for football.
Mayo confirmed the news with PSN, and also confirmed that he holds multiple offers from PSAC and MEC schools at the NCAA Division II men’s basketball level.
“Basketball has always been my favorite,” Mayo told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “So even though I love both, I think at the end of the day I’ll be happier playing basketball.”
Mayo was a standout football player at Beaver, playing safety in high school. His stellar play on the gridiron led to him receiving D1 interest and offers for football. He ended up committing to Bucknell before making this recent decision.
Mayo scored as many as 45 points in a single game this past high-school basketball season for Beaver, shining on the hardwood as well. Mayo told PSN that he requested his release from Bucknell and attending Bucknell is no longer on the table for him.
