A Top 2026 WPIAL Prospect, Pitt Priority Commits to Big 10 Program

One of the top WPIAL prospects in the 2026 class and a priority Pitt target has committed to a Big 10 program.
Lawrence ‘Jay’ Timmons — a 5-foot-11, 175-pound talent from Pine-Richland High School — announced late Monday night that he has committed to Pittsburgh native Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers.

Timmons, the son of former Pittsburgh Steeler Lawrence Timmons, is a three-star prospect, according to 247Sports. Many schools were looking at him to play cornerback, but he told Pittsburgh Sports Now back in March that the Hoosiers were recruiting him at safety.
He picked Indiana over other top offers from Pitt, West Virginia, Syracuse, Virginia, Wisconsin, Maryland, USF, Iowa State and Iowa.
Pitt was considered in strong position to land Timmons. He visited on the South Side twice this spring and built an excellent connection with safeties coach Cory Sanders that dated back to a camp workout in June of 2024. He would then pick up an offer from Pitt the day after winning a WPIAL title in November.
In that title game at Acrisure Stadium, Timmons totaled four receptions for 81 yards at receiver, while posting two tackles, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup in the win. It was highlighted by a 22-yard touchdown reception over top of a Peters Township defender as the Rams went on to win 20-9.
Timmons earned First-Team All-State honors after compiling 42 tackles, four interceptions, 10 pass breakups and three forced fumbles. He also added 40 receptions for 755 yards and eight touchdowns.
Pitt football has four commitments in the 2026 class so far, including three-star safety Isaac Patterson out of Ohio.
The Panthers have missed out on several other WPIAL players in the cycle such as Fort Cherry safety Matt Sieg (Penn State), Imani Christian Academy defensive back David Davis (Penn State) and Aliquippa edge rusher Daiveon Taylor (Kent State).
