PICKERINGTON, Ohio — During Pitt football’s spring camp, the program hosted a long list of players, including those down the road in the Class of 2027.

Many of them are just starting to build a relationship with the Pitt program and that also meant picking up an official offer.

Offensive lineman Lual Aleu — a 6-foot-5, 305-pound recruit out of Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati, Ohio — was one of those prospects that was in town for the Pitt spring game on April 12 and walked away with an offer.

Pittsburgh Sports Now caught up with the three-star talent at the Under Armour Next Camp in Ohio to discuss his relationship so far with the Panthers.

“It’s the communication,” he said on what’s sticking out so far about Pitt. “They’ve been trying to get me down there since February and finally made my trip this April.”

Position coach Jeremy Darveau has been leading the charge so far in the recruitment as Aleu had the chance to meet up with him on his.

“Energetic guy; great elite coach. Great spring game. Him and the defensive line coach, Coach Tim, both great coaches,” Aleu said.

From his visit to just his overall first impressions of the program, Aleu points to the success of developing players to the pros.

“Great program that sends a lot of guys to the league,” he said. “They’re next-door to the Steelers, so they pick up a lot from them and develop their guys and send them to the next level.”

Pitt is a program that is sticking out right now, one that Aleu said is top five at the moment.

Aleu has additional offers from Florida, Missouri, Cincinnati, Maryland, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Kentucky and others.

As for the UA Camp and this offseason, the offensive tackle is trying to show his skills, while also sharpening certain areas.

“My length, quickness and explosiveness and reach,” he said about his strengths. “The one thing I’m trying to get better at is a better jump step.”

247Sports lists Aleu as a three-star prospect, the No. 30 offensive tackle in the class a seventh-best player in Ohio.
