Viegas is a 5-foot-9 sophomore guard who spent the past two seasons in Tallahassee. This past season, she had a career year, starting a career-high 17 games and averaging six points per game. Viegas made 63 three pointers at a 43% clip.
“Carla is one of the best 3-point shooters in the ACC,” Pitt women’s basketball head coach Tory Verdi stated in the release. “She’s a proven winner that has competed in the ACC and internationally. We’re excited to add another strong veteran voice, who is also familiar with our league.”
Pitt also included some notes about her prep career in the press release.
“Prior to Florida State, Viegas enjoyed a successful prep career – representing Spain on the global stage,” the release stated. “She averaged 9.3 points, while shooting 44.7 percent from 3-point range in helping Spain to a third-place finish at the 2023 FIBA U18 European Championship. Viegas also previously played for CAB Estepona of the Spanish League, where she shot 52-of-91 from 3-point range in 2019-20, 28-of-64 in 2020-21 and 58-of-115 in 2021-22.”
