Western PA Basketball Star Commits to College Team

Another former WPIAL star basketball player is off the board.
Former Imani Christian basketball player Dame Givner has committed to Slippery Rock to play college hoops, according to his Twitter account.
Givner is a 6-foot-1 point guard prospect who transferred to Los Angeles Premier Prep for his final year of high-school hoops after playing for Imani. He was ranked as the No. 46 point guard in the country, according to 247 Sports. He is a three-star recruit who won a PIAA 1A state title with Imani in 2023. Givner scored 15.8 points per game in his final season with Imani, per MaxPreps. Givner began his high-school career in the City League with Obama. He then went to Imani, and when he left the WPIAL initially it was reported that he would transfer to Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut.
There have been several big storylines revolving around WPIAL basketball players lately.
Days ago, Brad Everett of the Pittsburgh Union Progress reported that Beaver star Brady Mayo will play basketball instead of football in college.
Mayo confirmed the news with PSN, and also confirmed that he holds multiple offers from PSAC and MEC schools at the NCAA Division II men’s basketball level.
“Basketball has always been my favorite,” Mayo told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “So even though I love both, I think at the end of the day I’ll be happier playing basketball.”
Mayo was a standout football player at Beaver, playing safety in high school. His stellar play on the gridiron led to him receiving D1 interest and offers for football. He ended up committing to Bucknell before making this recent decision.
