Pitt Works to Strengthen Relationship with Texas 3-Star TE Braden Bach

Following the graduation of Gavin Bartholomew and the departure of others via the transfer portal, Pitt and tight ends coach Jacob Bronowski are looking to restock the tight ends room.

Pitt has been in serious contact with a few prospects including 3-star recruit Braden Bach from Argyle, Texas.

The relationship between Bach and Pitt really started in January when Bronowski extended him an offer, which was the first Power Four offer for Bach.

The two sides have remained in contact ever since and that continued on Tuesday when Bronowski stopped by for an in-home visit to see Bach and his family. Pitt hasn’t been the only school to check in on Bach this week as he’s also received visits from SMU, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Air Force and Virginia.

Pittsburgh Sports Now was able to catch up with Bach in order to get a feel for his time spent with Bronowski and him traveling to Texas is something that was much appreciated.

“I think coaches benefit from seeing guys in person,” Bach tells PSN. “I’m sure that was one of the reasons he came. Coaches work hard and I respect that he went out of his way to come see me. He helped me understand how offensive Pitt is with the TE position. Obviously developing guys like Gavin shows how much coach Bronowski knows. My mom made us Green Chili Enchiladas, which coach said are his favorite. It was great to get extra time to hear about the school and the culture at Pitt.”

“Coach stays in touch. They came in pretty early, which let me know he saw something in me, so I appreciate him. I’m thankful Pitt is recruiting me hard. Coach has sent information about how many reps and targets all the TE’s get at practice and Pitt targets TE’s as receivers too, even though they need aggressive blocks as always. I pride myself in being more physical every day.

Bach fits the mold of what Bronowski looks for in a tight end — a physical athlete capable of making plays with the ball in his hands but also the aggression to consistently finish blocks. It’s that aggression, and the tenacity he shows in blocking, that caught Bronowski’s eye on film.

“One thing that coach said that he liked about my play style the most is my physicality and my ability to finish blocking,” Bach said. “And receiving and all that stuff will come. I can receive the ball well, obviously getting as many opportunities as other players helps, but I don’t think the receiving part will be an issue. I think the hardest part these days is finding a tight end that will really finish a block and when he called, he said that was the biggest thing that stood out to him.”

Bach was a key figure in Argyle’s 13-2 season, which included a 12-game winning streak throughout most of the season. He’s a steady blocker but also hauled in 26 receptions for 247 yards (9.5 yards per reception) and three touchdowns.

At this point in his recruitment, Bach holds offers from Pitt, Air Force, Dartmouth, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Kansas, Memphis, Navy, New Mexico State, North Texas, Princeton, Rice, San Diego State, Southern Miss, Tulane, Tulsa, UNLV and UTEP. Right now, the only official visit set for Bach is to Georgia Tech (June 13th) but look for more to be announced in the upcoming weeks.

While Bach is trying to make plans for his future college, he’s also working on getting better and finishing up his high school career with a great senior season.

“The summer is big. It’s about size, strength and nutrition. Putting myself in the best shape to show coaches that I’m working hard to be ready for the next level. It’s challenging to get to every official visit while you’re training, but I’m going to narrow things down soon and PITT has made a really great impression on me for sure. H2P”

One other thing that Bach mentioned to me is a family tie that he has with Pitt. Former Pitt basketball player Chad Varga (played at Pitt in the 90’s) is his dad’s first cousin and described him as “close family to me”.
