Duke’s staff just got stronger.

The Blue Devils’ men’s basketball staff, led by head coach Jon Scheyer, recently added a new assistant coach to the mix. According to 247 Sports’ national analyst Travis Branham, Scheyer will hire Evan Bradds, formerly with the Utah Jazz, as an assistant coach.

This move comes after former Duke associate head coach Jai Lucas was named the Miami head coach earlier this year.

Duke has won 24 ACC regular season championships and 28 ACC tournament championships. The Blue Devils have made the NCAA Tournament 47 times, and have made the Final Four 18 times. Duke has won five national championships in men’s basketball. The Blue Devils were led by legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski from 1980-2022. They last won a national title in the 2014-15 season, when current Pitt head coach Jeff Capel was on the staff.

Capel has been the head coach at Pitt since 2018-19, and earned ACC Coach of the Year honors after leading the Panthers to the NCAA Tournament in 2022-23. A 6-foot-4 guard back in his playing days, Capel went on to play four years at Duke after his high-school career. There, he started 106 games, scored over 1,600 points, and earned All-ACC honors in the 1995-96 season. He then spent a large portion of his coaching career as an assistant under Krzyzewski.
