Duquesne Lands Another Transfer Portal Forward

Duquesne has earned another transfer portal commitment.
The Dukes’ staff earned a commitment from former Saint Louis and College of Charleston forward Stef Van Bussel on Thursday night.
The Netherlands product previously played for Saint Louis before transferring to College of Charleston. While at SLU, he played 21 games in 2023-24, earning 7.7 minutes of action per game. He shot 58% from the field, and grabbed 54 rebounds. Van Bussel averaged 1.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game for the Bilikens.
He did not play in any games this past year for the Cougars. He had battled leg injuries as a freshman at Saint Louis, but overcame those to play as a rookie.According to College of Charleston’s profile for Van Bussel, he competed internationally before his time at Saint Louis.
“He played with Basketball Academy Limburg in the Netherlands and Bayer Giants Leverkusen in Germany,” his profile says. “In the NBBL, Germany’s highest youth league, he scored 12.1 ppg on 60% shooting while averaging 7.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. van Bussel also played on the Dutch U18 National Team in 2021 and 2022 and on winning teams in the Dutch National Cup in 2020 (U16 and U18) and 2022 (U18).”
Duquesne has also brought in Xavier transfer John Hugley, as well as former South Florida guard Jimmie Williams out of the transfer portal this spring.
With the recent addition of Hugley, the Dukes front court became crowded with Hugley, Eli Wilborn, David Dixon, Alex Williams, Chabi Barre and Jakub Necas. Barre also entered the portal, and eventually committed to Akron. Wilborn entered the portal, and eventually committed to James Madison.
