From May 5 to May 11, women’s college basketball coaches cannot participate in any recruiting, according to the NCAA.

This scheduled recruiting shutdown includes no calls, no texts, no visits, no social media interactions with recruits, no emails, no evaluations, and no written correspondence with prospective student athletes, family members, or coaches of prospective student athletes.

Pitt and Duquesne’s women’s basketball staffs have been busy this spring filling out their rosters for next season.

Pitt has earned transfer commitments from several highly-productive transfers so far.

Florida State transfer Carla Viegas has committed to and signed with Pitt, according to a press release from the school.

Viegas is a 5-foot-9 sophomore guard who spent the past two seasons in Tallahassee. This past season, she had a career year, starting a career-high 17 games and averaging six points per game. Viegas made 63 three pointers at a 43% clip.

“Carla is one of the best 3-point shooters in the ACC,” Pitt women’s basketball head coach Tory Verdi stated in the release. “She’s a proven winner that has competed in the ACC and internationally. We’re excited to add another strong veteran voice, who is also familiar with our league.”

In addition, the Panthers brought in Angel Jones from Norfolk State.

“Angel is an extremely talented scoring guard,” Verdi said in a release. “She will bring a ton of experience to our team.”

Dan Burt’s Duquesne staff has been on fire in the portal as well, adding numerous talented commitments.

Harriet Ford committed to the Dukes out of Omaha. Ford, ranked as a 78 overall on The Portal Report, is the No. 149 player in the transfer portal out of 1,400+ players to enter from the DI level, according to TPR. Ford is the No. 11 center in the portal, out of all players to enter so far — committed or available. Ford also ranks as the No. 2 freshman center and the No. 16 freshman in the portal overall.

The Dukes also recently landed a commitment from 6-foot-4 freshman transfer Maja Rohkohl out of Gardner-Webb.

Rohkohl, out of Hannover, Germany, played one season for Gardner-Webb before recently entering the portal. Rohkohl played in 26 games as a rookie, playing 17.9 minutes per contest. She scored 2.5 points per game and grabbed 5.8 rebounds per game. Her numbers earn her the No. 30 overall spot in TPR’s rebounder rankings.
