The Pitt Panthers are having a strong finish with their recruiting in the transfer portal.

Having recently added super athletic South Alabama forward Barry Dunning Jr. and skilled 6’8″ forward Henry Cody Lau from Australia, Pitt appears to be on the verge of adding their biggest recruit of the offseason.

Over the weekend, PSN reported that Pitt was the leading contender for much heralded Australian forward Roman Siulepa.

This morning, that same source tells PSN that “Hey mate, I can confirm he is 100% joining Pittsburgh.”

No timetable was given to me on when this could become official.

This would be a huge get for Pitt and one of the biggest gets of the Capel era. Siulepa is the No. 1 prospect in Australia and is viewed by several scouts as someone that eventually will be play in the NBA.

Credit former Pitt standout Lamar Patterson for assisting Pitt in the recruitment of Siulepa, as the two are teammates in Australia.

Siulepa is a 6’7″, 220-pound small forward, who’s described as an “overpowering physical presence, that fears no battles or collisions and is terrifying in transition and is developing into an unstoppable force on the glass.”

Siulepa is Australian, but has Samoan heritage, which you can tell by the size of him. He’s a very athletic kid and could be a star in Rugby if he wanted to.

Last year before signing with the JackJumpers, Siulepa was one of the most sought-after international prospects before deciding to stay in Australia.

Siulepa won MVP of the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders Asia Camp and MVP of the Australian U20 National Championship.
