On Thursday, Pitt and West Virginia’s matchup for this upcoming college basketball season was announced.

The game will be played on November 13, a Thursday night, in Morgantown.

Pitt beat West Virginia 86-62 in Darian DeVries’ lone Backyard Brawl contest last season. DeVries, the former WVU head basketball coach, is now the head coach at Indiana.

West Virginia went out and hired Ross Hodge, the former North Texas head coach, after DeVries left.

Hodge, 44, had been the head coach at North Texas for the past two seasons. Prior to arriving at North Texas, Hodge coached at the NJCAA level. He accomplished a 146-24 record during that time, highlighted by a 2011 season that saw him win the Western Junior Athletics Conference regular season title and then finish as the national runner-up.

WVU has brought in several big-time transfer portal prospects so far this offseason, including North Dakota’s Treysen Eaglestaff and Honor Huff out of Chattanooga.

Eaglestaff initially committed to transfer to South Carolina on March 30, but then quickly decided to re-open his recruitment. Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan and UCLA also showed interest in Eaglestaff.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard averaged 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists this year North Dakota during the 2024-25 season. In fact, he scored over 1,300 total points and made 221 three-pointers throughout his three-year career at North Dakota.

Eaglestaff owns a career shooting percentage of 41.6% from the field and 37.1% from three.
