Duquesne Lands High-Scoring, Top-50 Transfer Portal Guard

Duquesne’s Dru Joyce III has landed an elite guard in the transfer portal.
On Wednesday night, Duquesne landed a commitment from Tennessee-Martin transfer Tarence Guinyard, who is ranked as the No. 48 guard in the transfer portal this spring out of more than 1,300 guards.
Guinyard had a stellar season last year, averaging 16.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game as a junior. The 6-foot-2 guard also dished out 2.3 assists per game. He started 28 games and played 28.3 minutes per contest, while shooting 44% from the field and 33% from three-point range.
He played just one season at UT Martin, as he transferred there from Florida State College at Jacksonville. There, he spent two years playing under head coach John Putyrski, averaged 20+ points per game and hitting 154 threes across those seasons.
In addition, the Dukes’ staff earned a commitment from former Saint Louis and College of Charleston forward Stef Van Bussel last Thursday night.
The Netherlands product previously played for Saint Louis before transferring to College of Charleston. While at SLU, he played 21 games in 2023-24, earning 7.7 minutes of action per game. He shot 58% from the field, and grabbed 54 rebounds. Van Bussel averaged 1.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game for the Bilikens.
Duquesne has also brought in Xavier transfer John Hugley, as well as former South Florida guard Jimmie Williams out of the transfer portal this spring.
With the recent addition of Hugley, the Dukes front court became crowded with Hugley, Eli Wilborn, David Dixon, Alex Williams, Chabi Barre and Jakub Necas. Barre also entered the portal, and eventually committed to Akron. Wilborn entered the portal, and eventually committed to James Madison.
