NCAA Looking Into Coaching Challenges in Basketball

Only three ACC men's basketball teams are projected to make this year's NCAA Tournament, according to Fox Sports bracketologist Mike DeCourcy.
This week, the NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee proposed some changes to "help enhance the flow of the game" in the upcoming basketball season.

This week, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee proposed some changes to “help enhance the flow of the game” in the upcoming basketball season.

According to a press release, “Recommendations include a coach’s challenge at any point in a game to review out-of-bounds calls, basket interference/goaltending and whether a secondary defender was in the restricted-area arc,” the NCAA said. “Committee members also recommended modifications to the rule on continuous motion on field goal attempts.”

“The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel must approve all rule proposals before they become official,” the release said. “The panel is scheduled to discuss men’s basketball rules proposals June 10.”

In addition, the committee proposed several changes that would “address delay-of-game tactics, limit time spent at the monitor, improve game administration efficiency and reduce physicality.”

Pitt and Duquesne are both looking to make the NCAA Tournament this upcoming season after missing out on the 2024-25 dance.

After back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2022-23 and 2023-24, the Panthers took a step back this past season, going just 17-15 overall and owning an 8-12 record in ACC action. This offseason, Pitt lost several players to the transfer portal, headlined by Jaland Lowe and the Diaz Graham twins, among others. To replace the production lost by those players, Pitt brought in transfers Dishon Jackson, Nojus Indrusaitis, Damarco Minor, and Barry Dunning Jr. In addition, Pitt added high-school prospect Omari Witherspoon and has a verbal commitment from Henry Cody Lau out of Australia.

Duquesne went 13-19 overall in year one of the Dru Joyce III era last season, going 8-10 in A10 action. The Dukes then saw Tre Dinkins III, Eli Wilborn, and others enter the transfer portal. However, Joyce and his staff worked hard to recruit the portal and retain key talent, keeping players like Jake DiMichele, David Dixon, Cam Crawford, and more, and adding John Hugley, Jimmie Williams, Tarence Guinyard, and Stef Van Bussel out of the portal.
