Pitt Showing Interest in All-Conference Transfer TE with Visit in the Works

Tight end was an area of need in the spring transfer portal for Pitt football, and while the Panthers have already added to the unit, it appears they might not be done just yet.
Koby Gross — a 6-foot-2, 245-pound Florida A&M transfer — is receiving strong interest from Pitt, according to his NIL agent Michael Salvo and Gross further confirmed with Pittsburgh Sports Now.
Gross entered the portal back on May 2 with one season of eligibility remaining and Pitt tight ends coach Jacob Bronowski and director of player personnel Graham Wilbert reached out a few days later.
The two sides are trying to schedule a visit for the upcoming weekend, Gross said. Bronowski was on the phone with Gross Monday evening.
Pitt is a school that Gross is interested in and has some familiarity with after starting his career in the same conference.
“Pitt stands out because it’s an ACC school. I started off at Florida State and I took it for granted and my goal is to play in that conference again and showcase my talents at the highest level of college football,” Gross said.
Other schools showing interest in Gross include North Carolina, Cal, Kansas, Marshall, James Madison, Buffalo, Ball State and UTEP.

For Gross, the Panthers are “definitely at the top when it comes to everything” as he feels he would fit right into the offense.
“I think my talents would fit perfectly at Pittsburgh because I am not your typical 6-4, 6-5 type tight end. I can be moved around all over the field and line up anywhere,” he said.
The Pittsburg, Calif. native put together career-high numbers last season at UAB as he pulled in 24 receptions for 257 yards and three touchdowns, which earned All-SWAC Second Team honors. His first two seasons with the Rattlers, he caught 12 passes for 124 yards and three touchdowns.
Gross spent the 2021 season at Florida State where he did not see any action. He joined the Seminoles as the No. 1 junior college tight end, according to ESPN, out of Diablo Valley College.
Pitt lost redshirt senior tight end Jake Renda to the portal and the Panthers made a subsequent move by landing Marshall tight end Justin Holmes, who is primarily a blocking tight end.
