WATCH: Megan McConnell Makes Clutch Three in WNBA Game

Duquesne’s own Megan McConnell is currently fighting for a spot at the highest level of women’s basketball.
McConnell, who went undrafted in the recent WNBA Draft, earned a training camp invitation to the Phoenix Mercury organization in the WNBA shortly after the draft concluded. Now, she is competing with the Mercury in preseason action as the WNBA prepares for the 2025-26 campaign.
In Sunday’s game against the Golden State Valkyries, McConnell had her first big moment in the WNBA.
Trailing 77-72 with 1:10 remaining, McConnell’s teammate Temira Poindexter grabbed an offensive rebound off of a missed free throw. Then, she found McConnell on the right wing, wide open for a three. McConnell drained the shot, cutting the deficit to two points with one minute to play.

McConnell’s team went on to lost the matchup and fell to 0-2 in preseason action. McConnell finished the game with 10:28 of playing time, going 1 for 3 from the field and 1 for 2 from three-point range. She finished with three points, one assist, and one turnover in the game.
McConnell joined the Mercury for training camp shortly after the draft concluded.
“Honestly, I couldn’t believe it when I got that call from my agent,” McConnell said in a press release from Duquesne. “He said that Phoenix was excited about me and that they wanted to offer me to a training camp, and I accepted it. And I just couldn’t be happier. I just can’t wait to go there and prove myself that I belong there. To be here at the Cooper Fieldhouse with my coaches and my teammates, I wouldn’t want it any other way, and that’s why I asked them to be by my side tonight. They’ve been there for me through the good and the bad, and just to have that support means the world to me.”
