Pitt FB Recruiting
Latest Pitt Portal Buzz as Team Still Looks to Add Another Piece

The spring portal buzz has died down a bit surrounding Pitt football after adding three new additions.
While it’s been quiet on that front, it doesn’t mean Pitt is done searching for talent from the portal.
A source told Pittsburgh Sports Now on Monday that Pitt is potentially looking to add at least one more player from the portal, and when asked if there’s a certain position of need, that was followed with that they are looking for the “best available.”
From the sound of things, however, it appears there isn’t much top talent left available.
Action Network’s Brett McMurphy reported that “a couple of ACC coaches summing up available players in the transfer portal: ‘It’s full of trash right now. There’s no one worth adding.”
Regardless of what is available for teams to scoop up, Pitt still remains active as it carefully combs over its options.
On Monday, PSN reported that the Panthers were showing heavy interest in Florida A&M transfer tight end Koby Gross. That’s a possible option out of the portal to add more depth to that unit behind Jake Overman and Malachi Thomas. Pitt already addressed the tight end room with Marshall transfer Justin Holmes, but he looks to factor in more as a blocker than anything, so a viable pass-catcher would be welcomed.
Gross says he is working on scheduling a visit with Pitt for this weekend and tight ends coach Jacob Bronowski has been active in recruiting him.
Pitt also offered WPIAL product and Eastern Michigan transfer cornerback Chase Arrington nearly two weeks ago. It’ll be interesting to see if the Panthers make push for Arrington after already landing former four-star corner and North Carolina transfer Zion Ferguson.
Another player Pitt is reportedly showing interest in is Division II wide receiver Trevon Tate out of Clarion. He recorded 1,137 yards and five touchdowns on 65 receptions as he was a First Team All-Conference selection and All-American honorable mention. He’s receiving interest from Pitt, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Stanford, Louisiana Tech, UTEP and others.
Oklahoma quarterback Cole Gonzales, Ferguson and Holmes make up the three spring transfer additions for Pitt so far.
If there are still any areas of need for Pitt, offensive line, tight end and possibly one more wide receiver would make the most sense.
