A Pitt spokesperson confirmed that Liam Mignogna is no longer on the Pitt basketball team, hence why he is not on the roster.

Pitt’s basketball roster has been updated ahead of the 2025-26 season, and another player from last year’s team is not listed.

A Pitt spokesperson confirmed to Pittsburgh Sports Now that forward Liam Mignogna is no longer on the Pitt basketball team, hence why he is not on the roster.

Mignogna, a 6-foot-9 sophomore, joined the Panthers as a preferred walk-on ahead of the 2024-25 season.

At Hampton High School nearby, he surpassed the 1,000-point total in his high-school career during his senior year. Mignogna and his Hampton teammates earned 2nd place in WPIAL 4a action that year, falling to Brandin Cummings’ Lincoln Park Leopards in the championship game at the Petersen Events Center.

In that game, Mignogna finished with 20 points as his team’s leading scorer. Mignogna was listed at 6-foot-9, 220 pounds last year and wore number 24 for Pitt. He spent one season with the program.

OTHER WALK-ONS STATUS

Pitt has two walk-ons listed on the roster so far: Jajuan Nelson and Benjamin Mayhew.

Former walk-on turned scholarship player Vason Stevenson recently graduated from Pitt and is moving on from the basketball team.

BENJAMIN MAYHEW

The Wilkinsburg, PA native played his high-school ball for Propel Braddock Hills.  Mayhew wears number 13 for the Panthers.

In his senior season, Mayhew averaged 25 points and six rebounds per contest. According to Pitt’s roster notes, Mayhew became the first player in his school’s history to surpass 1,000 career points in high school.

JAJUAN NELSON

Nelson is the lone Philadelphia native on this year’s team. The 6-foot-7 forward wears number 44.

As a senior at String Theory Charter School, Nelson averaged more than 15 points and eight rebounds per game.
