During the 2024 season, the Pitt linebacker unit, or better known as ‘The Sharks,” broke out in a big way with an All-American and several other productive members making splash plays.

The Panthers have an opportunity to take that play to another level this fall with two of the best linebackers in the nation.

According to Pro Football Focus, Kyle Louis and Rasheem Biles are the only returning linebacker duo in the country with 80-plus PFF grades last season.

Louis, who became Pitt’s 100th First-Team All-American and first sophomore defensive player to earn the honor since Hugh Green in 1978, received an overall 83.4 PFF grade. The 6-foot, 225-pound talent put together a remarkable season as he totaled 101 tackles (second-most on team), a team-high 15.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks and four interceptions.

The East Orange, N.J. native was a force all over the field and made impact play after impact play. PFF also named Louis as one of 10 linebacker names to know for the 2026 NFL Draft.

As for Biles, he in his own right, compiled an excellent season with 82 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and recovery and a team-high nine pass breakups in 12 games of action. That earned him Second Team All-ACC honors from the Associated Press and an overall 82.9 PFF grade.

The 6-1, 220-pounder from Columbus, Ohio is looking to join Louis on the All-American level this upcoming season and has all the tools to do so.

Louis and Biles lead a linebacker unit that also features Braylan Lovelace, who added 53 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and an interception. Coming out of spring camp, Lovelace was battling with sophomore Jeremiah Marcelin at the middle linebacker position.

Cameron Lindsey, Davin Brewton and Ohio State transfer Jayden Bonsu all look to follow in the footsteps of Louis and Biles this season as depth pieces.
