Pitt Begins Connection with Big 4-Star Offensive Tackle After Offer

The Pitt football staff has been active on the high school recruiting trail over the past few weeks and that includes dishing out offers to prospects in the 2027 class.
This week, offensive line coach Jeremy Darveau extended an offer to a massive four-star recruit out of Ohio.
Taft High School product Kalel Johnson, who stands at 6-foot-8, 281 pounds, added the Panthers to his growing offer sheet on Monday.
“I enjoyed the conversation with coach Darveau,” Johnson told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “He was straight forward and seemed excited to offer me. I can tell he is a straight shooter.”
After a great conversation with @CoachDarveau I am blessed to receive an offer from @Pitt_FB ! @Bryan_Ault @AllenTrieu @CoachTy_1 @TaftNationFB @Birm @mickdwalker @On3Recruits @PrepRedzoneOH @MacCorleone74 @TaftNation pic.twitter.com/r4l8ZAaeg0

Not only does the size and length stand out to Darveau, but the quickness with that build solidified extending the offer.
“He likes my size and frame,” Johnson said. “The fact that I’m real quick on my feet and I finish every play strong.”
Johnson has yet to visit Pitt, but hopes to make the trip from Cincinnati soon as he hopes to learn more about the program.
“The University of Pittsburgh has a lot of championships from the past and I’m sure they are eager to get back there and maybe that’s something I can help them achieve,” he said.
He added: “Pitt plays tough competition and that’s what I’m about: playing against the best.”
247Sports rates Johnson as a four-star prospect and a top-200 player in the 2027 class. He also checks in as the No. 18 offensive tackle in the cycle and fifth-best player in Ohio.
Johnson holds additional offers from Ohio State, Cincinnati, Indiana, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Louisville, Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, Boston College and others.
