Is Pitt Football’s 2025 Win Total Line Fair?

Despite returning some talent such as Desmond Reid, Kyle Louis, Rasheem Biles, Eli Holstein, etc., it appears as though the oddsmakers aren’t very high on the 2025 Pitt Panthers.

No doubt, a lot of the skepticism has to do with the way the 2024 season ended with Pitt. Ending the season with six consecutive losses are the most recent memories that most people have of Pitt and obviously those aren’t good.

The other factor is that the ACC could be a lot better this season with optimism around programs such as Clemson, Miami, Louisville, SMU and Georgia Tech, in particular.

The Panthers suffered some losses such as Gavin Bartholomew, Donovan McMillon, Konata Mumpfield, Branson Taylor but did bring in a number of players through the transfer portal.

The question is will those additions, along with the development of younger players and the return of the players previously be enough to improve upon Pitt’s 7-6 record of last season?

On Wednesday, the oddsmakers released their over/under win totals for college teams and @CircaSports puts Pitt at 6.5. That would be another season that won’t have Pitt fans very happy and rightly so.

ACC/Notre Dame Regular Season Over/Under Win Totals via @CircaSports
Notre Dame 10
Clemson 9.5
Miami 9
Louisville 8.5
SMU 8.5
Georgia Tech 7.5
North Carolina 7.5
Florida State 7
Duke 6.5
Pitt 6.5
Virginia Tech 6.5
NC State 6
Virginia 6
Boston College 5.5
California 5.5
Stanford 5.5

Taking a look at Pitt’s non-conference schedule, it includes games against Duquesne, Central Michigan, West Virginia and Notre Dame. Without doing a ton of research, that looks like 3 wins to me.

Getting to the ACC schedule, Pitt has home games against Louisville, Boston College, NC State and Miami, Fla. Once again, I see 3 more wins for Pitt. That takes the win total to 6.

Looking at Pitt’s away games, they’ll travel to Florida State, Syracuse, Stanford and Georgia Tech. I’ll mark Pitt down for 2 wins on the road.

So, my early prediction for Pitt this season is for 8 wins, possibly 9. Take the over.
